[ allison's a little in awe of how jo's handling everything. if the roles were switched, allison wouldn't be able to face people about it. would end up hiding herself away for weeks. months, even, seeing as she's already done it once.

jo shakes her head and allison wants to help, but she has no idea how. ]

That doesn't make it any less awful. Just because these things happens or Wonderland likes to mess with us. Are you sure you're okay?

No, I'm not.

[She's forcing herself to act stronger than she feels; she's not sure she can say much more than she already has, can only hope that downplaying it will help her swallow some of the guilt, but the fact is that she hasn't been able to look Tom in the eye since it happened. Not for more than a moment or two, no matter how many times he tells her it's not her fault. They'd seen each other, but quickly realized that this wasn't going to get better without a little time apart.

That may have been what hurt the most. The fact that someone who normally trusts her implicitly, who depends on her, is now uncomfortable being alone with her because of what someone else did with her face.

That bitch.]

But I'm trying to be okay. If I don't try then I'll just fall apart and it'll be this whole mess-- I don't want anyone to see me like that.

[But her voice is a little shaky even as she explains. Truth is, she doesn't want to see herself like that.]

[ the fact that allison can relate so much to what jo is feeling, tp the way she's holding herself together because she knows she's not fine. but can't be not fine around everyone else. allison could be a hypocrite and tell jo it's fine to not be fine for a little while, to let someone in and help her with it, but she holds herself back.

something in her tells her that jo would see right through that, so instead she just nods. or is quiet for a few moments. either way. ]

Well if you need anything- even if it's just a distraction. Things are kind of tense on my end too.

[Jo would see through it. She would argue, and privately she would know that forcing herself to act like she's fine is the only way she's going to get through this and keep her head on straight. If she lets it break her, it will only eat her up inside.

She can't afford that.]

Then the offer goes both ways, you know. Even if it's just a distraction.

[Jo musters a small smile as she echoes her.]

We'll both get through it. That's what we do, right?

[ neither of them can afford that. but that's why they're here for each other, isn't it? holding that weight on their own.

allison smiles back, nodding. ]

Yeah, I know. Thanks for that, by the way.

[ without lydia, allison found herself needing time away from the boys. cora helped that, but she was guarded in her own way. she appreciates jo more just because of that. because it feels like she's finally got someone else to go to. ]
